Before Embryo Transfer

Bladder, medications, hygiene, and calm — how to prepare.

Embryo transfer is short, calm, and painless. This preparation guide keeps it that way. Please follow the specific instructions of the medical team.

Medications

Continue all prescribed medications accurately, including progesterone and other medications, according to the medical team's instructions. Do not stop or modify medication without consultation.

Full Bladder

You may be asked to arrive with a moderately full bladder to improve ultrasound visualization during embryo transfer. The medical team will provide the appropriate water quantity and timing. Avoid excessive bladder filling that causes significant discomfort.

Personal Preparation

Shower on the morning of transfer. Wear comfortable, loose clothing.

  • Avoid perfume
  • Avoid creams or scented oils
  • Avoid strong-smelling cosmetic products
  • Do not wear jewelry or bring valuables

Arrival

Arrive approximately 30 – 60 minutes before the scheduled procedure. Bring valid identification and review and sign the required consent documentation.

Nutrition

No fasting is generally required. A light healthy meal may be taken before arrival unless the medical team gives different instructions. Follow the team's instructions regarding water intake for bladder filling.

Relaxation

You are encouraged to arrive calm and relaxed. Anxiety before transfer is understandable — the medical team is available to provide support.

Contact the Center

Contact the center before your procedure if you develop any of the following:

  • Fever
  • Influenza / cold or cough symptoms
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Any new illness or health condition

These instructions provide general guidance for patients of Dr. Chadi Fakih IVF Center. Always follow the personalized instructions provided by your treating medical team.
